Kirill Basalaev was born in 1988 in Tomsk. He got degrees from Tomsk State University (Faculty of Art and Culture, 2009) and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Moscow (2015).
He took part in the Main Project of the Second Artmossphere Moscow Street Art Biennale (Invisible Wall, Moscow, 2016) and in the Parallel Programme of the 5th Moscow International Biennale for Young Art (Between Us. The Space of Reminiscences, MMOMA, Moscow, 2016).
Kirill Basalaev’s works are founded on “ruinization” – accepting the urban environment as a perpetually self-destructing structure in which man must constantly support life. Kirill Basalaev works with materials that constitute the city’s “skin” and “backbone” – in particular, concrete and plaster. He lives and works in Moscow. His works are found in private collections and the collection of the Tomsk State Museum of Fine Arts.
