Nika Kupyrova (1985 in Kyiv, Ukraine) grew up in Prague, studied Painting at the Edinburgh College of Art, Fine Arts at the Iceland University of the Arts and Transdisciplinary Art at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. She is currently living and working in Vienna and Prague.

Nika Kupyrova uses exhibition spaces as stages for her experiments in narration.
Within her practice that appropriates everyday objects, literature and pop culture phenomena, the artist proposes bridges between textual and visual languages where you don’t expect to find them, seeking analogies between sculptural positioning and sentence construction. Kupyrova’s multi-layered installations blur the borders between objects that are made, found or altered, leaving ample space for interpretation and exploring three-dimensionality in post-digital age.

Artistic presentations include participation in II and III Moscow International Biennale of Young Art and exhibitions in WIELS Contemporary Art Centre in Brussels (2018), Mattress Factory Museum of Contemporary Art in Pittsburgh, USA (2011), Wien Museum MUSA in Vienna (2018), SODA Gallery in Bratislava (2018), Kunstraum Niederoesterreich in Vienna (2015) and Meetfactory Centre for Contemporary Art Prague (2012). Nika is a recipient of Erste Bank ExtraVALUE Art Award (2017), an Austrian state scholarship for emerging artists STARTStipendium (2019) and is a collaborator of a media theory research project originalcopy.

Her works can be found in the collection of the State of Austria in Belvedere 21, collection of Wien Museum (Austria) as well as collections of Fait Gallery (Czech Republic) and the Mattress Factory Museum of Contemporary Art (USA).
