Alexander Shchurenkov

Untitled (Because of you)

While making and collecting pictures of garbage bins for a couple of years in a row, Shchurenkov realized that they emphasize close relationships. The garbage bins near his house live a full life that differs from day to day, as if they were a real couple or family. To accent the effect of “being together”, he added some signs to the pictures. These signs consist of cliches that couples constantly exchange verbally and via messages; some of them are words from love songs. These signs, which are all about love and care, clash with their ordinary background (which is, literally, garbage). Furthermore, the candy colours of the signs and their chaotic order conflict with their surroundings and question the nature and sincerity of human relationships.
